Summer of OER: Get Started Finding, Adopting, and Adapting

Summer of OER: Get Started Finding, Adopting, and Adapting In-Person

As we continue into our second and third semesters of remote learning at GCC and a period of extended stay-at-home orders, our students are experiencing greater financial stress than usual. One way faculty can help is to use free open educational resources (OER) and other freely available readings, lab simulations, and assignments in our courses instead of expensive commercial resources.

Join us for this session to learn how to locate and implement effective resources and tools that will continue to be free to you and your students now and beyond this crisis.

OER is:

Flexible. OER doesn’t have to mean using an entire open textbook--you can bring together articles, assignments, and parts of books together to create exactly what you want to teach.

Equitable. These options will increase first-day access to required course materials and will save students time and money during this stressful time.

Effective. Studies show that students achieve the same or better learning outcomes when using open educational resources while saving a significant amount of money, and that the majority of faculty and students who’ve used these resources had a positive experience and would do so again.
